What this site is for

Baby Names is an informational site. It gathers meanings, origins and context about given names, plus calculators meant to accompany the arrival of a baby. It is material to inform yourself with and to enjoy while choosing a name — not a professional service.

Important health notice

Several calculators touch on child health: height prediction, blood group, weight and head circumference, body mass index and corrected age for premature babies.

None of them is a diagnosis, medical advice, or a substitute for assessment by a paediatrician, midwife or geneticist. They are statistical models and formulas published in the scientific literature, applied to the numbers you type, with every margin of error that implies.

If a result worries you, or if your baby's growth or health raises questions, consult a healthcare professional. Never make or avoid a medical decision based on what this website says.

On the accuracy of the content

Meanings and origins are documented from etymological sources and reviewed by hand, but etymology is rarely a settled science: one name can carry several readings defended by different authors, and in some cases the origin is genuinely disputed. When that happens we say so, rather than picking one version and presenting it as the only one.

We work to a firm rule: if a claim has no backing, it does not get published. We would rather leave a gap than fill it with something plausible but invented.

Content and intellectual property

The text, design and code of this site are our own work. Third-party data we use (growth tables from official bodies, open encyclopedia data and weather services) belongs to its respective sources and is cited on the page where it is used.

You may quote passages by linking back. Copying whole pages to republish them, no.

Availability and liability

The site is offered as is, with no guarantee of uninterrupted availability or freedom from errors. To the extent permitted by applicable law, we accept no liability for damages arising from the use or the impossibility of use of the site, nor for the content of external pages linked from it.

Advertising and donations

Access to the content is free. The site is sustained by advertising and voluntary donations, and some tools additionally offer a paid PDF report; in that case the result itself is always visible free on screen and the PDF is an optional extra. Donations unlock nothing hidden: there is nothing hidden.

The paid PDF works on trust, not verification: the site has no server of its own or integrated payment gateway, so there is technically no way to confirm a contribution before generating the PDF. This is stated plainly on the calculator itself.

These terms may be updated as the site changes. The revision date above marks the latest version.
