Baby Names

Privacy policy

This site was built to work without collecting personal data. There is no sign-up, there are no accounts, and no form sends your information to us. Even so, some things deserve a detailed explanation, because a browser always talks to someone.

Who is responsible

Baby Names is an independent editorial project. For anything related to this policy, including exercising your rights over personal data, write to lianawebs8@gmail.com.

What this site does NOT do

We start here because it is the longest and most important part:

  • We do not ask you to register and we do not create user accounts.
  • We use no analytics tool whatsoever: no Google Analytics, no Plausible, no equivalent. We do not measure your visits.
  • We have no application server and no user database: the site is a set of static files.
  • There are no contact, subscription or newsletter forms sending data to any system of ours.
  • We do not sell, transfer or share personal data with third parties, not least because we do not hold any.

Data recorded by the hosting provider

Like any website, the server that delivers this site keeps technical access logs: IP address, date and time, page requested, browser type and operating system. These are standard web server logs, generated automatically, and used for security and error diagnosis.

Hosting is provided by Hostinger International, which acts as the infrastructure provider and keeps those logs under its own policies. We do not use them to build profiles and we do not combine them with any other information.

Advertising and cookies

This site is funded by advertising and voluntary donations. When advertising is active, ads are served through Google AdSense.

Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads, and may use advertising cookies that enable it to serve ads based on prior visits to this or other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com), and read how Google handles data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will also see a consent notice before any advertising cookies are set, managed through a Google-certified consent platform. Your choice is stored in your own browser and you can change it at any time.

Beyond advertising, we set no first-party tracking cookies.

The birth capsule

The capsule is the part of the site that handles the most data, so it gets its own explanation. Everything you type there (given name, surnames, date, time and place of birth, and relatives' names if you choose to add them) is processed entirely inside your browser. It never travels to a server of ours, because no such server exists.

To complete the sheet, your browser queries two external public services directly: Open-Meteo, for historical weather and sunrise and sunset times for the date you entered, and Wikidata, for historical context. Those services receive the date and the approximate coordinates of the place you typed, but not the baby's name or any other family detail.

The half-filled form is stored temporarily in your browser's session storage so you do not lose it when switching languages. That storage clears itself when you close the tab, and the form's reset button empties it too.

The PDF you download is generated on your own device. It never travels over the internet.

The calculators

The site's calculators (height, blood group, growth, corrected age and the rest) work the same way: every calculation happens in your browser using formulas and tables already downloaded with the page. What you type is not sent anywhere and is not kept beyond the tab's own session.

Donations

The donation buttons are links to external platforms: Ko-fi, PayPal and Mercado Pago. If you choose to donate you leave this site, and the payment is handled entirely by that platform under its own privacy policy. We neither see nor process your card or account details; at most, the platform tells us a donation happened.

Links to other sites

We cite sources and link to external pages (etymological dictionaries, official bodies, encyclopedias). Following one of those links takes you to someone else's site with its own rules: this policy no longer applies there.

Minors

The site is about babies, but it is aimed at adults: mothers, fathers and relatives choosing a name. It is not intended for use by minors and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Your rights

Data protection law — the European GDPR and equivalent laws elsewhere — grants you rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction and portability over your personal data. In practice, since we hold no personal data about you, there is little for us to rectify or erase; but the channel exists and we answer it: write to lianawebs8@gmail.com.

For data handled by Google (advertising) or Hostinger (hosting), those rights are exercised directly with them, as they are the ones holding it.

Changes to this policy

If the site changes and starts handling data differently, this page is updated before the change reaches production, and the revision date above changes with it.
