Choosing a child's name is one of the few decisions made once that last a lifetime. This site was born out of the frustration of searching for meanings online and always finding the same thing: lists copied from each other, without a single source, carrying etymologies nobody ever checked.

Who publishes this site
Baby Names is edited and maintained by LianaWebs, a small editorial project run by one person. It is worth saying plainly and without dressing it up, because it is what lets you judge what you read here: there is no newsroom, no paediatricians, no qualified linguists, no civil-registry advisers.
What there is, is a stated method. Every claim published here comes from a source you can check — official civil registries, health-authority reference tables, etymological dictionaries — and that source is cited at the foot of the relevant page, not hidden. When no reliable source exists, the claim is not published: that applies to the pages about ourselves too.
The guides and the calculator articles are written and reviewed by LianaWebs. We publish no third-party copy, no sponsored articles, and no content supplied in exchange for links.
What you will find here
A directory of names with their meaning, origin and history, browsable by letter, origin, style and gender. A curiosities section with practical guides for deciding on a name: how it sounds next to your surnames, what the initials spell, which nickname everyone will actually use, how a name travels between two languages. A birth capsule gathering the details of the day a baby was born into a single sheet. And a set of calculators for the questions expectant parents actually ask: how tall will they be, what colour will their eyes be, which blood group can they inherit.
How the content is made
Every name starts from a database built by hand and reviewed in batches. Meaning and etymology are checked against documentary sources; where several readings are defended by different authors, the main ones are recorded rather than picking one and presenting it as definitive.
The context around a name — historical figures, variants in other languages, use by country — is added only when a concrete reference backs it. The calculators use published formulas and tables, and each one cites on its own page where its numbers come from.
The rule that governs the whole project
No source, no publication. It sounds obvious, yet it is what sets this site apart from most name directories: when we find no backing for a claim, that section simply does not appear on that entry, instead of being filled with a generic sentence that would fit any name at all.
That is why some entries are longer than others. It is not carelessness: some names are better documented than others, and we would rather that showed.
How it is funded
All content is free and available without signing up. The site is sustained by advertising and by voluntary donations from anyone who wants to help. Some tools also offer a paid PDF report, but the full result is always visible free on screen: the PDF is a keepsake, not a toll.
Advertising never shapes the content. There are no sponsored articles and no names featured in exchange for money.
Correcting a mistake
This site is maintained by one person and mistakes happen. If you spot a misattributed meaning, a doubtful etymology or an out-of-date figure, write to lianawebs8@gmail.com naming the entry and, if you can, the source that corrects it. It gets reviewed and fixed.
